Northampton Township Flag Day Ceremony June 14, 2011

The Laws of the United States state: “ When the flag is in such condition that it is no longer a

fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”

The Northampton Township Supervisors and the Township Veterans Advisory Committee are pleased to announce that Northampton Township will hold a Flag Disposal Ceremony on Flag Day, Tuesday, June 14th at the Northampton Township Municipal Park located off Hatboro Rd, Churchville from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

The public is invited and encouraged to take their old or tattered U.S. flags to the ceremony for proper disposal.

The flags will be disposed of and burned by Boy Scout Troops #5 based in Churchville and #240 based at St. Vincent DePaul and assisted by the Township Supervisors.

The program will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m. with opening remarks followed by posting of the colors by the Color Guard from the Marine Corps League’s Patriot Detachment #1230 Richboro, singing of the National Anthem, and the Pledge of Allegiance.

Following a keynote address by Colonel Tom Manion, USMC Retired, the Scouts will begin the burning ceremony until its conclusion. A token of appreciation for attending will be provided compliments of Lynne Kelleher (flags) and Gasper Landscaping (potted plants).

Residents may bring their tattered flags at any time during the ceremony, but if they cannot attend the ceremony on the 14th, they may bring their flags in advance to a number of locations including the Township Administration and Public Works buildings on Township Road, the Northampton Senior Citizens Center at Upper Holland and Township Road, or any of the 3 Northampton firehouses (Richboro, Holland and Churchville).

In the event of inclement weather, the flag ceremony and burning will take place at a later date.

Hope you can make it and if you have any questions email me or call 215-364-3000.
