Preservation and Bids
Here’s the text of a recently published opinion letter by Jerold Bass in The Bucks County Courier Times, in case you missed it.
It addresses both the criticism leveled at the Board of Supervisors and the unfair, poorly researched articles on the subject by the newspaper staff and editors.
On 9/30/09 this newspaper took to task the Republican majority of the Northampton Board of Supervisors for not being fiscally responsible in light of their (legal) right to not go out to bid on professional services, to wit “Legal” fees.
- On 10/01/09 the same editor again chides the Republican majority for not selling the Richboro School to non taxable institution instead of a taxpaying entity.
This newspaper also fails to mention that the successful bidder was the only one of the three that actually had the MONEY. The others would have had to scramble to raise the needed funds just to close, not mention the approximately $400-500 thousand dollars required to make the building habitable.
RESPONSE TO CLOSE MINDED
Here’s a copy of a letter sent by Sheila Bass, a Northampton resident and member of the Northampton Township Municipal Authority, on October 22, 2009 to the Bucks County Courier Times Letters editor in response to a published letter from another citizen.
The words are the same, except for a few typos, but the letter’s layout have been altered slightly to make them easier to read online.

Date: Thursday, October 22, 2009, 1:15 PMAs a person who has been actively involved in Northampton civic affairs for 35 years and currently a member of The Municipal Authority, I find it necessary to correct the ill-informed misstatements of John L. Harris in yesterday’s guest opinion.
The proposed Senior Citizens Center has been built and has been in operation for several years now. The money stolen by a crook has all been recovered including all accounting and legal fees. Are you saying that when someone steals from you that means that you are a thief?
Democrats Shut Down Government
Here’s a message that we should note and view, if in doubt, on the Cable Video of the Northampton Board of Supervisors Meeting of April 22, 2009.
It is regularly replayed on Cable Channels 22 (Comcast) and 23 (Verizon)
On Thursday, 4/23/09, Watching Neighbor (theadvocate18966 [at] yahoo.com) summarized the meeting as follows:
Democrat Party political machine was in action for the disruption of a public meeting with deliberate purpose to shut down government
A small group of political workers engaged in the deliberate customary disorderly behavior in defiance of authority of government and of the Sunshine Law and defiance of police authority.
