Petri Named to Leadership Role

Scott Petri (R-Bucks)Subcommittee chair on Appropriations Committee is latest in list of leadership positions for lawmaker

Representative Scott Petri (R-Bucks) has been appointed chairman of the Pennsylvania House Appropriations Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Development. It is the latest in a line of key committee assignments entrusted to the Bucks County lawmaker.

“The Appropriations Committee controls the Commonwealth’s purse and determines how taxpayer money is spent,” said Petri. “The current economic climate demands closer scrutiny of state spending and emphasizes the need for economic development initiatives that will attract businesses to Pennsylvania and create family sustaining jobs.”

Petri says his goal is to return to economic growth and stability in Pennsylvania. “I will review the state expenditures for this budget and look for ways we can tighten our belts. Likewise, I will also be looking for ways the state can utilize its assets to increase revenues, promote business opportunities and job growth.”

This assignment is the latest in a number of leadership positions Petri holds on the various committees on which he serves. As a member of the Liquor Control Committee, Petri chairs the Subcommittee on Marketing, and he is chairman of the Urban Affairs Committees’ Subcommittee on First Class Cities and Counties.

“Our greatest challenge in the months ahead will be to minimize the impact of the national economic situation on Pennsylvania citizens,” said Petri. “This will be no easy task with fuel costs rising, job cuts and federal bailouts. However, I am grateful for the opportunity to lead this important subcommittee and I will do what I can to develop effective and appropriate responses to these challenges.”
