Former Republican President Ulysses S. Grant stated that he was a Republican “because the Republican Party is a national party seeking the greatest good for the greatest number of citizens.  The Republican Party assures protection of life and property.  It encourages the general education of the poor as well as the rich.  The Republican Party is a party of progress, and of liberty toward its opponents.  It encourages the poor to strive to better their children, to enable them to compete successfully with their more fortunate associates, and, in fine, it secures an entire equality before the law of every citizen, no matter what his race, nationality, or previous condition.  It tolerates no privileged class.  Everyone has the opportunity to make himself all he is capable of.”  He also said, “The Democrat Party is united in but one thing, and that is in getting control of the government in all its branches.”

President Grant spoke these words on September 28, 1880.  And I believe they remain true today.  I am proud to be a Republican, although I am not always proud of the Republican Leaders in Washington, D.C.  I believe that when Republican officials begin acting like Republicans and supporting and standing for the many issues that the Republican Party stands for, we will continue to win elections!

I am a Republican because I believe the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s ability, dignity, freedom and responsibility must be honored and respected.

I am a Republican because I believe that a strong economy is achieved when the free enterprise system encourages individual initiative and creativity and incentive for hard work.

I am a Republican because I believe that government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow people to keep and save more of the money they earn.

I am a Republican because I believe in “less government” and that the proper role of government is to provide for people only those critical functions that cannot be provided by individuals and private organizations.

I am a Republican because I believe American needs to remain strong and we should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom, liberty and human rights throughout the world.

I am a Republican because I believe in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all Americans, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

I am a Republican because I believe that the most effective responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

I love living here in Northampton Township and I appreciate very much our community and the many great things this area has to offer me and my family.  Our Republican officials have invested in numerous projects and initiatives that have added to our quality of life here in the Township.  Several examples are the new library with its tremendous resources, our new Senior Center, and a new park where families can enjoy the outdoors together close to home.   Each of these initiatives was done in a fiscally conservative way taking advantage of low interest rates.  You and I and our families will reap the benefits of these smart investments for years to come.
