Thomas J “Tommy” Hinchcliffe has been recognized as the 2013 Winner of the “Excellence in Government & Citizenship” Scholarship. “Tommy’s essay answering this year’s question, ‘Is the United States of America a Democracy or a Republic’, was an outstanding literary response,” said David Breidinger, NTRC Chairman. “Tommy is a thoughtful, learned and sincere young man who has had a passion for history, government and civics since he was 6 years old.”
An independent panel of judges determined that Tommy’s application met all of the requirements of the NTRC’s Annual Scholarship Competition. His 600 word essay was awarded superior status. Tommy and his family were recent guests of the NTRC at the Committee’s Pancake Breakfast where they learned of Tommy’s achievement and recognition. The award also includes a $500 scholarship that will be presented to Tommy at Council Rock – South’s Awards Assembly on June 17, 2013.
“I can’t thank the Northampton Republicans enough for making this award,” declared Hinchliffe. “The timing could not be better since I will be going to Penn State – Main three days after graduation from CR. I can use the funds for books and supplies. Thank you so much.” Tommy’s parents, Michelle and Tom Hinchliffe, and his sisters Bernadette, Annabelle, Gwendolyn and Elizabeth proudly looked on as Breidinger presented the Award to Tommy.
The Republican Committee award is the only scholarship made by a Northampton Township political committee that is open to ALL graduating seniors who are residents of the Township. The program has defined rules and award is based on achievement. This is an annual Scholarship Program designed to recognize the BEST NORTHAMPTON students.
